OKINE SHINES
Matt Okine has been busy. Really Busy. His profile seems to be permanently on the rise, transitioning from a three-year stint as radio co-host on the triple j breakfast show to co-writer and starring in his own television show, ‘The Other Guy’ (Stan). He also has his own cooking show on the ABC, ‘Short Cuts to Glory’, and if that’s not enough he has been spotted on SBS ‘Legally Brown’, ‘It’s a Date’ and ‘Dirty Laundry Live’.
Phew! We are therefore thankful that he has taken time out of his busy schedule to come ‘home’ and present his show ‘The Hat Game’ at this year’s Brisbane Comedy Festival. Okine entertains with stories of first world annoyances such as not being able to use your credit card to buy tickets on Brisbane buses (he’s really annoyed about that one) and his trademark personal transparency regaling us with stories of his father, pokies addiction, and his first time shooting a sex scene. There is also a hilarious anecdote about beards and fellatio and that’s all I’m going to say about that (you’ll just have to see the show to get the full story).
Matt Okine is energetic and honest, cleverly weaving different stories together in a side-splitting and thoroughly entertaining show. Not to be missed, ‘The Hat Game’ is showing at the Brisbane Powerhouse until Sunday, March 4.
