AN EVENING OF FLAG WAVING

A cherished tradition of classical music of the annual Proms festival delivers an evening of flag-waving fun, where the audience is encouraged to sing and hum along to the tunes they know and love!

Queensland Symphony Orchestra yet again brought forth a selection of pieces both well-known and rarely heard, spanning a repertoire of nearly four centuries in their concert, Last Night of the Proms.

It is difficult to name a highlight in this concert. The Brisbane Chorale joins forces with QSO to release the power of Alexander Borodin's "Polovtsian Dances". Diana Doherty shows what an oboe can do in the hands of a real virtuoso, bringing Tasmanian wilderness to life in Nigel Westlake's Oboe Concerto, "Spirit of the Wild". And Saint-Saëns' organ symphony No.3 brings a regal atmosphere, as the organ's sounds majestically lifts the entire orchestra.

The grandeur of the first half made sure the inspired audience was ready to partake in the performance in the second half. With a delightfully engaging Rachel Durkin's beautiful rendition of "Meine Lippen" and Benjamin Northey's enthusiastic conducting of the audience, the full house at QPAC's Concert Hall was left inspired and feeling great!
