DO TWO WRONGS MAKE A RIGHT?

When Alex Williamson walked onto the Eatons Hill Hotel stage last night for the Brisbane leg of his national tour ‘So Wrong, It’s Wrong’, the crowd roared.

Entertaining an audience of approximately 1,000 Caucasian Millennials, it’s easy to see why the 30-year-old Australian stand-up comedian is a YouTube comedy sensation. Williamson worked his Brisbane material specifically for his target demographic, knew how to push their funny buttons, and spoke a language they understand. In return, his target demographic demonstrated how much they worship him by laughing when he wanted them to, applauding him with gusto, and some even tried to affectionately heckle. Unfortunately for the hecklers—bless their cotton socks—they didn’t realise it was a one-way conversation.

The highlight of the 60-minute show was Williamson’s love song to his drug dealer. At this point in the show, Williamson picked up his guitar, sat on a stool and serenaded his dealer as if he were the only person in the room. The audience listened intently, hanging on to every note.

Definitely not for the faint-hearted, Williamson’s style is crude, full of c-bombs, and ‘so wrong, it’s wrong’—but that’s exactly why he is venerated by his fans.
