THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ONE

A sassy and hopeless romantic takes us through a delightful musical journey of her failed relationship timeline via jazz covers of 90s jams and witty self-deprecation.

There’s Something About Mary(s), written by Cassie George and Michael Mandalios, is a charming and entertaining cabaret that provides insight into Cassie’s true stories of her time as an innocent, daydreaming university student finding herself being drawn to men who checked off her must-have-qualities-in-a-boyfriend list, only to discover that they had their sights on other men or could wear heels better than her. Nonetheless, Cassie finds joy being dubbed as the 'Queen of Fag Hags' by her gaggle of gays.

Cassie’s incredible voice enchants the audience with her renditions of hits from Christina Aguilera, Salt-N-Pepa, Jewel, and, naturally, the fag hag matriarch, Cher. Cassie’s best friend and musical director, Luke Volker, is wildly talented on the piano. Their chemistry is displayed on stage as Luke not only brilliantly plays the songs, but also delivers funny one-liners that bring Cassie back to earth when she’s off reminiscing about her boy-filled past.

The show is playful, an enjoyable sing-along, and a relatable story of young love and loss. We look forward to seeing this musical theatre darling in her next show, hopefully sharing how she finally found “the one”.

There’s Something About Mary(s) is showing from 23 – 26 November 2017 as part of the Wonderland Festival at the Brisbane Powerhouse. Book your tickets here.
